Colouring techniques: altering a candle

Hello,
Jane is with us today, with this lovely project. This is a really quick and easy technique yet very effective, and those cute candles can be made for any occasions: birthday, new home gift, Christmas, christening even... They also make the perfect teacher's gift.

For this project, you will need.....
Candle (white is best), tissue paper (there is always some between acetate sheets!!), rubber stamp, Copics, Memento ink, baking/parchment paper and a heat gun.....

Stamp your image onto the tissue paper using Memento ink and colour with Copics. Here I used E01, E11, RV63, RV66, BV04, E31, E33, E35, E37
You will not be able to blend the colours as you normally would and you will need to use darker colours than usual i.e. E01 for skin instead of E000. Use scrap paper under your tissue as the ink and the Copics will soak through....

Cut out the images leaving a little tissue paper around the outline. Place on candle as desired and then wrap your parchment/baking paper around tightly holding it at the back......

If your heat gun has two settings then use the slower one, directing the heat onto the candle and over the image including the outside edge of the tissue paper. Keep the heat gun moving and do not hold it too close to the candle. You will see it changing colour the same as with embossing powder. Peel back the parchment paper to make sure that the tissue paper and image has melted into the candle showing no edges. It does not take long to do this. I also heat the different images separately.

To finish use a little Stickles in the centers of the flowers.

  1. What a clever idea! No copics but I must have something that would work!

  2. Lovely. Have heard about using pre printed napkins for this technique but never thought about stamping my own. Much cheaper and another super tip for using the stamp stash.
